Welcome to
HungarianLessons.com! Do you want to learn Hungarian (magyarul) because of your heritage or because of
academic, business, artistic or other interests? Are you anticipating a trip
to If you have answered yes, you have come to the
right place! I am an experienced, patient, young and dynamic native Hungarian teacher ready to help you. I have a background in Linguistics and I work as a professional language teacher and tutor full time. I give private and group Hungarian lessons in New York City as well as online. I teach all levels -
beginner, intermediate and advanced. I also provide specialized Hungarian classes for graduate students, business people, and actors and singers. This summer, I am offering special group conversation classes. If you are motivated and willing to
learn, I would be delighted to teach you how to communicate and read and write in Hungarian. I will help you improve your Hungarian quickly using my proven, learner-friendly, creative approach. I can teach you a combination of conversation
and grammar, carefully catered to individual needs and learning styles. I believe that
there has to be a healthy mixture of structured and unstructured learning.
Approaches that want to refrain from grammar and drill exercises entirely are
as inefficient as approaches that overwhelm you with endless uninspiring
pattern drills. I don't offer cookie-cutter lectures - my
approach is highly individualized, dynamic and comprehensive. My lively
Hungarian lessons are for those who are hungry for the Hungarian language,
culture, laughs and a fun time. If you have an avid interest in Hungarian, both as a language and as a culture,
tends to evoke a sense of mystery and beauty. But while Hungarian is a
fascinating language, it is also one of the more difficult languages to learn
for non-native speakers. However, once you get the hang of it, you will see
it is not that hard and actually lots of fun. If you haven't yet decided the best way to go
about learning Hungarian, meaning, you are weighing whether to purchase CDs
or take a course or try private lessons from someone, I can tell you as a
polyglot and life-long language learner myself that even with the best
intentions, if you are learning a new language with a book or CDs or even in
a course at a language school where the teacher is just winging it, you will
not be exposed to the living language, meaning that your vocabulary,
listening skills and conversation skills will be limited to a fictional
version of the language you are trying to learn. Often, great effort is needed by non-native
speakers to attain a good level of competency in actually teaching others
idiomatic Hungarian or even the fundamentals of grammar. But a native
Hungarian speaker is usually not enough, because even if he or she is
well-intentioned, he or she may be unsuited to teach Hungarian as a foreign
language. Unfortunately, many people offering Hungarian lessons do not have the right qualifications, and teaching methods for Hungarian as a foreign language are usually unknown to them. In addition to having a natural affinity for teaching others, one
needs to be familiar with teaching methods for Hungarian as a foreign
language, be able to see one's own language as a foreign language (that is,
from the perspective of the learner), and should know when to push more and
when to reduce the pace of learning. As you can see, learning one-on-one with
a trained, tried and true Hungarian teacher such as myself
is your best bet if you want to learn authentic Hungarian the right way.
